Oology Tattoo FAQs

Here is most everything you need to know about getting tattooed by Oology, thank you for reading!

Booking

I book through an inquiry form located here also located in my Instagram bio. Inquiry forms do not ensure that you get an appointment or that I am the right tattooer for the job. I usually respond within a week or two of your submission, please do not send a follow up email or fill out the inquiry form a second time.

Custom Designs

I love to  collaborate with clients to create something special, and all of the information on the booking form is important to that process. References are very helpful/necessary.  This is how I understand your aesthetic and helps me to be successful in creating your custom design. It’s ok to send other artist’s work as a reference, but understand that I do not copy any other existing work, and my style/version of the design may look different than the references (I will communicate about what I am/not able to do).

Flash

Flash will be available to my newsletter subscribers first, you can sign up for my newsletter here. Newsletters are a cool curation of art and life that is not algorithm fed and I think that is super valuable. After that, I will post some flash on Instagram.

How do consultations work?

I will only do consultations for larger projects such as a multisession back piece or half/full sleeve. I can do consultations over zoom or in person at Public Record.

When will I see my design?

For custom pieces, I will send you a sketch ~24 hours before your appointment. Please send back any notes or changes (if you have any) ASAP. I will make adjustments and you can see the edited iteration at your appointment. If there are slight adjustments from there, we can make those at your appointment.

Pricing/Rates

My hourly rate for my studio in Seattle is $120/hour for flash and custom. My minimum for any tattoo is $150.

My rate for guest spots is $150/hour, this is to offset travel costs and the cut the studio takes. My minimum at a guest spot is $200.

Once I’ve accepted a proposal/booked your appointment, and I have a clear idea of what you’re looking for, I can give you a solid estimate. This is just an estimate. If budget is a factor, I will always try to work within the range you are comfortable with and I will communicate to you what I can do within that. Coverups, certain placements (chest, ribs, etc) and complex detailed tattoos are more time consuming.

I am happy to give you a set price that we agree upon beforehand if it is possible, just ask :)

Travel/Guest spots

I announce guest spots on Instagram at least 1-2 months in advance, and you can choose that city in your inquiry form submission.

If you are a shop that is interested in hosting me, please email oologytattoo@gmail.com. I love to travel and see what different shops are up to.

I submitted a request but didn’t get an appointment, why??
• Limits: Sometimes people want tattoos that I don’t think I will be able to do well! I have limitations as an artist, like anyone - some imagery or stylistic requests are just not my strength and I don’t want to give you a subpar tattoo. I don’t like doing super simple linework tattoos or text.
• Placement:  I don’t have enough experience to confidently tattoo certain parts of the body. If you are flexible about placement, please indicate and I am more likely to work with you.

Deposits

A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to book an appointment, which will secure your spot in my calendar, and be applied to the final cost of your tattoo. This must be sent via Venmo within 48 hours of when we offer/you accept an appointment time.

Rescheduling Appointments

Deposits are non-refundable, but if you give me notice (at least 48 hours) I can reschedule you and apply the existing deposit. Please only reschedule if it is absolutely necessary - I budget my month around each appointment and trust that you will do your best to respect my time.

Cancellations

Sometimes for health reasons (physical or mental health), financial reasons, uncertainty, etc, people decide to cancel without intent to reschedule. This is ok and I understand. I’m not mad about it! I do not want anyone to do something (especially get a tattoo!) that they’re not comfortable with.

However if you decide to cancel and not reschedule, or if you no call/no show, the deposit will be forfeited (and in the case of the latter, I will not work with you in the future). This is to protect me and my time.

Where is your studio?

I tattoo out of Public Record Tattoo, a studio co-owned by me and Sam Park (@popspark).

What happens once my appointment is booked?

Once your deposit is paid and your appointment date is confirmed, feel free to use our email thread to communicate, send additional references, etc. I will also reach out to you if I need clarification about anything in relation to your design. I will send your initial sketch via this thread ~24 hours before your appointment.

What are my payment options?

I take cash (preferred), Zelle or Venmo.

Tipping

Tips are always appreciated and never required! I am the sole owner of my studio/business.  If you have a good experience working with your tattoo artist/love your tattoos, tipping is industry standard and encouraged! 15-30% is standard but whatever you feel comfortable with is much appreciated, including non monetary tips such as snacks, taxidermy and plants. :)

What to know before your appointment

Please come on time - no more than 5 minutes early and no more than 15 minutes late (unless you've contacted me that day to let me know you'll be running late). If you are very late and I don't hear from you, your appointment is cancelled and you will need a new deposit to secure an appointment.

It's a great idea to bring a book, headphones, a game, etc. Sometimes when I'm concentrating I'm not able to chat much, please don't be offended!

You may bring 1 guest.

Wear comfortable clothing that doesn't get in the way of the area to be tattooed, and bring a hair tie if the tattoo will be near upper body/face. I need to be able to fully access the area without constantly moving fabric/hair etc., it’s not sanitary. Please wear neutral solid tones (preferably black) so that I can photograph the tattoo cleanly. Side note: ink tends to find its way onto your favorite pair of pants/shoes/etc - wear something you don’t care too much about just in case.

I do not have a  problem with nudity, I’m used to it, but I want you to be comfortable. Public Record Tattoo is an appointment only studio and not open to the public.

Don't skip breakfast/lunch! Eat a meal in the few hours before getting tattooed, or bring a snack. I have some snacks and apple juice for you.

HYDRATE starting 48 hours before and get a good nights sleep - it matters, trust me! Moisturize the area being tattooed starting one week before your appointment.

Thank you so much for reading through - this is all important info and will help us both to have the best experience. If you have any additional questions that are not answered here please email me at oologytattoo@gmail.com
